IDEAS Live: Women’s Prison Project w/ Former Gov. Linda Lingle
Former Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle is leading a new group called the Women’s Prison Project, which aims to dramatically reform the way women in the state are funneled through the state’s criminal justice system.
Bills from the project are moving through the 2022 session of the Hawaii Legislature, and Gov. Lingle will join Chad Blair to talk about the legislation and why the project’s work is so critical.
This virtual event will be held on Crowdcast and Facebook Live.

Civil Beat Book Club – “Kīpuka: Finding Refuge In Times Of Change”
“Kīpuka: Finding Refuge In Times Of Change” from Bamboo Ridge Press is a book of poetry and prose about living in contemporary Hawaii. Civil Beat’s digital producer, Kuʻu Kauanoe, hosts an in-person book club discussion at da Shop’s warehouse.
The night will start off with an hour-long book club discussion, followed by a half hour for writing and sharing.

Civil Cafe: Pandemic Learning Loss – What’s Being Done About It?
At the beginning of the year, student absentee rates soared above 30% because of the Omicron surge. School bus routes were temporarily suspended due to bus driver shortages, leaving kids at home for long stretches of time. A spike in fights at schools has highlighted the need for more mental health support.
This discussion will explore what supports and systems are out there or needed for students to get back up to speed. Join us for this virtual discussion held on Crowdcast.
