Membership revenue helps fund a professional staff of journalists who focus on investigative and explanatory reporting to help inform the community about issues of importance. The strength of any nonprofit organization lies in the support of community members through their donations and gifts. What are the membership options? Our membership program allows for support at several levels. You can see those options on our membership page. Are there other ways to support Civil Beat? Yes! In case an annual or monthly gift doesn’t quite suit you, we have many other ways to give. Stocks and Bonds Gifts of stock and other appreciated securities are a popular way to give because it may help you avoid the capital gains tax while giving you a charitable income tax deduction. It is also very easy to do, and as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Civil Beat will not be taxed on gifts from your IRA, 401(k), 403(b), pension or other tax deferred plan. Bequests A charitable bequest through a will or living trust ensures that your legacy lives on. You may leave a gift of a specific dollar amount, an asset or a percentage of your estate. Life Insurance One of the simplest and most tax-advantaged ways of making a gift to Civil Beat is to name us as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy. You can assign a new or existing policy to Civil Beat, designated as a full or partial beneficiary. Company Matching Your company may match your gift, which could potentially double the value of your donation. How do I get a receipt to declare my tax deduction? When you donate, our system will send a receipt to the email address you provide.
