Page Text: Our Supporters - Honolulu Civil Beat About Civil Beat / Our Supporters Our Supporters Here at Civil Beat, we demand transparency from government, business and others in positions of power. We hope that you benefit from these efforts, especially when our investigations shed light on things that are unjust and potentially harmful. But none of what Civil Beat does would mean anything if we fail to earn your trust. That’s why we are committed to transparency in every aspect of funding our small nonprofit newsroom. Civil Beat accepts gifts and grants from individuals, organizations and foundations to help with our general operations, coverage of specific topics and special projects. Our news judgments are made independently – not based on or influenced by donors. We do not give supporters the rights to assign, review or edit content. Further, accepting financial support does not mean we endorse donors or their products, services or opinions. For foundation grants, Civil Beat has fully adopted the set of guiding principles published by the American Press Institute recommending safeguards for ensuring ethical journalism funding and editorial independence: Guiding principles for nonprofit newsrooms Civil Beat receives major support from Pierre and Pam Omidyar through the Omidyar Ohana Fund, a donor advised fund at the Hawaii Community Foundation. This list includes current donors as of February 15, 2022. For corrections or inquiries about how to make a donation, please contact membership@civilbeat.org . Foundation and Business Support
