Page Text: Food Cart Pods Coming to NE Broadway in Grant Park

For the longest time I’ve wondered what is up with the old Burger King building on NE Broadway. It has been fenced off for years and frankly, it’s kind of an eyesore. But I don’t have to wonder any longer—the site is going to become a food cart pod. Plus, for purposes of this post, there’s going to be a bonus food cart pod across the street.
As reported in the Winter 2021 Grant Park Neighborhood Association newsletter , an 18-cart food cart pod will take over the former Burger King location at 3550 Broadway. Koble Creative Architects is working on this project and plans include renovating the janky-looking building that housed the Burger King plus the patio. Construction should start this winter or spring and the space will welcome food carts in the late spring or early summer.

The aforementioned bonus pod will be located at 3505 NE Broadway, just across and up the street. There will be six carts in the building’s parking lot. The permits for this pod have been approved and it’s likely that food carts could move in this spring.

Koble Creative Architects is the firm that is also handling the old Gordon’s Fireplace Shop/old Airplane Factory building up the street. As an aside: at one point the Gordon’s building reminded me of a mini 5Pointz , what with all the creative art that was painted outside the building. Sadly, now there’s too much tagging that takes away from the art.
I think these two pods are positive additions to the area and I’m can’t wait to see how they turn out.
