Page Text: Select Page Local California Scorecards When California voters decided to legalize cannabis, local jurisdictions were given a narrow window of time in which to decide how to approach commercial cannabis in their communities. Local jurisdictions could decide to completely ban commercial cannabis locally, could do nothing and simply allow commercial cannabis to operate under state rules, or could develop their own rules and regulations to govern all aspects of commercial cannabis.  Many communities decided to temporarily ban recreational cannabis until they had time to thoughtfully craft local policy. To inform the public and encourage adoption of state and local law that better protects youth and public health, and promotes equity, Getting it Right from the Start gathers information on how each California regulation has regulated cannabis. We use that information to prepare a cannabis policy scorecard for those jurisdiction which allow storefront sales, evaluating to what extent  jurisdictions that have adopted  cannabis policies to protect kids and public health  as well as  social equity
