Page Text: Civil Engineering Students Compete in Steel Bridge Competition A team of GW civil engineering students spent the past several months designing and building a 20-foot, scale-model steel bridge—using the skills they have learned in the classroom to compete at the regional Student Steel Bridge Competition. The team successfully assembled their bridge in 28 minutes and received a second-place award for aesthetics. Students Serve during Spring Break During GW’s spring break, a collection of students immersed themselves in different cultures while doing work to help those communities. Run through the Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, Alternative Breaks held student service projects in Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and in Washington, D.C. for students to build skills and gain experiences to make meaningful change through active citizenship. "Thomas Buergenthal visited my Holocaust class @GWtweets today and I’ll never forget it. It was the first time in my life hearing from a Holocaust survivor directly. Research through text is one thing. Hearing directly from the person is another."
