Working in collaboration with Anthesis (formally Best Foot Forward) KLH Sustainability provided carbon foot-printing expertise to ensure this challenging BREEAM Outstanding and LEED Platinum chemistry laboratory achieved full carbon neutrality within the targeted 25-year period. To achieve this vision, we worked closely with the design team, analysing the carbon impact of each design iteration. We subsequently supported the University through the competitive tender process to select a principal contractor and provided an assurance role on site.
Unfortunately the building was subject to a massive fire in September 2014 prior to completion. This created additional challenges in the carbon modelling and auditing process, and we investigated the impact that the fire had on the carbon neutrality of the building. Through consistent communication, we guided the University through the decisions and carbon modelling results, giving them confidence in the carbon performance of the laboratory.
