Administrator policy
Each Division (Interest Group, Commission) sharing WordPress space in the AEJMC Network is allowed one and only one Administrator for the Division site. Administrator privileges are granted through an application process and for a limited period of time (up to six weeks) and for a specific purpose. This policy is enforced out of concerns for security of the entire network .
The Administrator role
A person possessing administrative privileges has full system rights. This means s/he has total control over not only the content in your site, but the site’s presentation (its design), all user accounts, site performance and behavior options, plugins, import capabilities, menu structures, and even the ability to edit WordPress program scripts pertaining to your site.
A careless or ignorant move by the administrator of one Division site can endanger the security of all sites in the network.
Administrative privileges are granted for a limited time (up to six weeks) in part because once you have set up your site and your contributors are registered with the network, there is no need for administrative privileges and the risks those privileges entail. All site maintenance functions, as well as some functions that may be considered administrative are well within the privileges of an editor.
The Editor role
In the WordPress scheme of things an editor has permission to do all things involving content as well as having some scripting rights. Specifically, your site’s editor can publish posts, upload files, change other persons’ posts, edit pages, manage links & categories, moderate posts, and publish unfiltered html. Four of these activities carry some security risks: uploading files, moderating post comments, and publishing unfiltered html.
