Page Text: About Smart and Skilled
Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. It's helping people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers.
Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:
an entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III
government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.
If you're a prospective student, this website tells you everything you need to know about Smart and Skilled before you enrol with your preferred training provider.
With Smart and Skilled, you have more choice when selecting courses and training providers. To determine if you're eligible, go to the Are you eligible? page. You can then visit the Course Finder to find the right course and training provider, and get an estimate of your course fee.
The site also includes information for employers and training providers.
Training Services NSW in the NSW Department of Education, is responsible for Smart and Skilled and leads policy, planning, funding, regulation and advice on VET and employment in NSW.
The NSW Skills List defines the courses subsidised under Smart and Skilled
The courses subsidised are on the NSW Skills List . The Skills List identifies courses that help people get the skills they need to find a job. It also aligns with the skills needs of businesses in NSW. For further information, view NSW Skills List under Smart and Skilled.
Smart and Skilled introduces new fee arrangements
Smart and Skilled introduces new prices and fee arrangements for government-subsidised courses. The NSW Government contributes to the cost of each course and the student pays the balance. Fees are for the whole course, rather than year-by-year. Your choice of training provider doesn't affect the fee you pay for any course. Fee exemptions and concessions are also available for disadvantaged learners. For further information, view fee arrangements under Smart and Skilled.
