Striving to Improve Diversity
Princess Scott ’21 ’22G
Through R.I.S.E. (Rightful Inclusive Student Entrepreneurship) at Lehigh’s Baker Institute, graduate student Princess Scott is leading research and conducting interviews to learn more about underrepresented students’ perception of entrepreneurial opportunities on campus and the barriers to their participation. Baker’s R.I.S.E. program aims to improve diversity, inclusion and equity in its programs. Scott is earning her master’s degree in technical entrepreneurship, following her participation in LehighSiliconValley in her senior year.
Preparing Women Leaders
Cathy Engelbert ’86 ’23P
Lehigh’s 2018 Commencement speaker, Cathy Engelbert ’86 ’23P, made history twice—as the first woman to lead a major U.S. professional services firm (Deloitte) , then as the first commissioner of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). An influential leader in women’s sports, she is helping to prepare the next generation of women leaders with a $1 million gift to establish the LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, Athletics and Distinction) Scholars Program, a leadership development program for women athletes.
A Mentor for Student Researchers
Lesley Chow
Lesley Chow, assistant professor of bioengineering and materials science and engineering, has a track record of involving undergraduates in her research lab. Committed to expanding experiential learning opportunities, she has supervised more than 30 undergraduate students in research activities over the past six years, with many going on to receive prestigious awards and fellowships. As testament, she received the 2021 Early Career Undergraduate Research Mentoring Award from the Engineering Division of the Council on Undergraduate Research.
