Page Text: About Mapcore Mapcore is a game development community with origins in Half-Life mod production, which since 1999 has evolved into a thriving forum for game development including level design, modelling, concept art, and programming. With members working for every major games studio you can think of, Mapcore offers a unique opportunity for developers of all experience levels to socialize, learn and teach, as well as recruit. INDUSTRY RELEVANCE Although initially consisting only of hobbyist developers, Mapcore's senior members have long since entered the games industry, leaving their mark and inspiring a new generation of game developers. Mapcore's brand of professional discussion and informal chit-chat is a unique opportunity to benefit from expertise spanning almost every games industry heavyweight, with several studios having multiple Mapcore members working in-house; numerous members also either work for or have founded major indie studios. HISTORY Mapcore evolved from 1999's Anarchy Design, a game development website and IRC community officially supported/hosted by the Counter-Strike development team. Due to the explosive growth of the community and the widespread popularity of Half-Life's Goldsource engine as a platform for third-party modifications, Anarchy Design was revamped to include developers from projects beyond Counter-Strike and renamed Mapcore in order to suit the site's new direction. Mapcore was re-established in 2003 by Mike Neumann, David Marsh, and Patrick Krefting — and handed over to Ryan Williams several years later. Today, Mapcore operates under the guidance of a leadership cabal aspiring to take the site onward and upward, whilst remaining open to all. DISCORD Mapcore began life as an IRC channel, however Discord is our preferred channel of live chat today.
