Far Cry Arcade
Far Cry Arcade, FCA, is an editor that comes with Far Cry 5. If you use Ubisofts subscription Uplay+ you get the editor with the game as well. This is a great editor for designers who want to do singleplayer open-world or systemic design encounters. Supporting great terrain sculpting tools, easy to use and setup AI and great visuals, it’s a good starting tool to ease into design. It’s very forgiving in terms of corruption, crashing and errors. Not much can go wrong with this editor.
It also lets you practice your art skills by limiting the user to only using four materials for the ground. AI is easy to setup since they are behaving by themselves, the designer can influence their behaviors but not hard-script how they should act. Lighting is simple but looks great which lets the designer focus more on the actual design. There are loads of assets although some are very limiting in their own use. Multiple assets are sometimes grouped together as a single entity and you cannot break the prefab which makes it difficult to use. Budget and performance is handled mostly by the editor itself which is a blessing, something all the three earlier editors are missing completely. This can however, also be a great frustration if you build something and halfway through notice you are over budget and there is no way to change it. The budget limitations can feel quite arbitrary if you develop on PC for PC since they are probably in place to not destroy consoles.
