LG's new C2 OLED TVs are here: 42-inch 4K 120Hz starts from $1400 Anthony Garreffa | Wed, Apr 13 2022 5:28 PM CDT LG has just unleashed its new C2 OLED TVs that were originally announced at CES 2022 (the Consumer Electronics Show) in January. They're now for sale, which means LG's smallest OLED is now ready to rock and roll. The new LG 2022 C2 OLED TV series begins with the 42-inch model, but there are 48-, 55-, 65-, 77-, and 83-inch C2 OLED TVs for $1400, $1500, $1800, $2500, $3500, and $5500 respectively. The 55-inch through to the 83-inch C2 OLED TVs are 20% brighter than their predecessors, as they're based on LG's brand new OLED.EX panels. Each of the new LG C2 OLED TVs are native 4K, super-smooth 120Hz refresh rate, and 4 x HDMI 2.1 ports that are upgraded over their predecessors: the full 48Gbps of HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, up from the 40Gbps on the previous models. We also have LG's new α9 Gen5 processor, updated webOS 22, and support for Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG. LG display boss flexes OLED TV muscle, new OLED.EX tech: evolutionary Anthony Garreffa | Thu, Apr 7 2022 12:25 AM CDT LG's next-gen OLED TV display technology, OLED.EX, is primed for the future and has been detailed in a recent keynote speech by Lee Hyeon-woo, Senior Vice President and Head of Life Display Business Group at LG Display. The next-gen LG OLED.EX panel technology boosts screen brightness by 30% and reproduces natural colors more precisely, which is thanks to the innovations in LG Display's world-leading OLED technology. Lee Hyeon-woo explained: "As a result of analyzing the color distribution of content such as over-the-air and OTT videos that customers mainly watch, 70% of the images were in the high-brightness area adjacent to white". He continued: "There are very few videos that use primary colors or colors that combine only primary colors. It is more important to improve the image quality in the color gamut near white, and it is effective in realizing realistic images. By improving the screen brightness of OLED.EX, LG Display has completed a display that is closer to natural color expression". Hisense announce 65-inch gaming TV with insane 4K 240FPS, and HDMI 2.1 Anthony Garreffa | Thu, Mar 17 2022 6:32 PM CDT Hisense have just announced their next-gen 65-inch gaming TV, which is designed for next-gen enthusiast-level gaming with a native 4K resolution and insane 240Hz refresh rate. Display connectivity is driven through an HDMI 2.1 port, but there's also 2 x HDMI 2.0 ports. If you want that huge 4K 240Hz goodness, you're going to need HDMI 2.1 connectivity and a PC with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series GPU or AMD Radeon RX 6000 series GPU. Hisense's new Gaming TV Ace 2023 will only pump out 4K 240Hz on the PC with the right GPU, while next-gen console owners with a Sony PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, then you will enjoy up to 4K 120Hz mode. The ULED-based panel has 1.07 billion colors, up to 178-degree viewing angles, Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet connectivity, too. Apple Studio Display: huge 7K resolution, custom SoC, dropping in 2022 Anthony Garreffa | Sun, Mar 6 2022 12:31 AM CST Apple is building a next-gen professional-level display, with the latest reports teasing the company is about to unveil a new 7K resolution panel. The new Apple Studio Display will reportedly replace the current Pro Display XDR, or be added onto Apple's family of panels, with 9to5Mac reporting that Apple's next-gen display has a 7K resolution. We're being told to expect a larger 36-inch panel with a higher pixel density of 245 PPI -- compared to the 32-inch 6K panel on the current Apple Pro Display XDR -- and its 218 PPI. Interestingly, inside of the new Apple Studio Display will pack a custom SoC with a codename of "J327" that will be a built-in Apple A13 chip. 9to5Mac says that their sources said that the "Apple Studio Display is the same J327 model - meaning that Apple has still been working on an external display with a dedicated Apple Silicon chip". ASUS ROG Swift PG329Q-W: 32-inch 1440p IPS, 175Hz, 1ms gaming monitor Anthony Garreffa | Sat, Mar 5 2022 11:40 PM CST ASUS has just unveiled its new ROG Swift PG329Q-W gaming monitor, with a 32-inch IPS panel and native 2560 x 1440 (1440p) resolution -- backed up by a huge 175Hz refresh rate -- and 1ms response time. Not bad, ASUS. Inside, ASUS deploys its Fast IPS Display technology that allows the "display's liquid crystal elements to change four times faster than established IPS panels for enhanced response". Motion blur and smearing are no issues, with under 1ms gray-to-gray response time, and vivid colors with DCI-P3 98% color gamut and 1000:1 contrast ratio. It wouldn't be a new ASUS ROG Swift gaming monitor without RGB lighting, with ASUS including its in-house Aura Sync lighting technology. This means if you've got any other Aura Sync-enabled products (motherboard, etc) then you can tweak your RGB lighting in one easy place. There's also DisplayHDR 600 certification, that's not bad -- but it's not an OLED panel -- remember. VESA intros DP40, DP80 UHBR cables for DisplayPort 2.0: 4K 240FPS Anthony Garreffa | Tue, Mar 1 2022 7:29 PM CST DisplayPort 2.0 display connectivity is nearly here so the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has just announced a new certification program... and I don't know if it makes things any easier for consumers, like, at all. VESA has announced the new DisplayPort UHBR (Ultra-high Bit Rate) data transfer rates that the next-gen DisplayPort 2.0 standard will offer, with the introduction of the new DP40 and DP80 UHBR cables. In the future, you'll see DP40-marked cables that are good to support the UHBR10 standard (up to 10Gbps across four lanes, for up to 40Gbps of bandwidth). Meanwhile, DP80-marked cables will support the UHBR20 standard (up to 20Gbps across four lanes, for up to 80Gbps of bandwidth). The higher bandwidth unleashes new capabilities: uncompressed 8K 60Hz HDR, 4K at up to an insane 240Hz with HDR, 2 x 4K 120Hz with HDR, or a bonker 4 x 4K 60Hz with HDR -- all over a single cable -- mighty impressive. Alienware 34-inch QD-OLED gaming monitor: 3440x1440 @ 175Hz for $1300 Anthony Garreffa | Sun, Feb 13 2022 6:32 PM CST Alienware's new AW3423DW gaming monitor is right around the corner, offering a 34-inch QR-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) panel and native 3440 x 1440 resolution with a huge 175Hz refresh rate. While it's not a true OLED gaming monitor, the QR-OLED panel will offer a filtering layer that converts blue light emitted by the OLED panel underneath into red, green, or blue subpixels required for an image. This means that the quantum dots let more light pass through than traditional filters, releasing light omnidirectionally... increasing viewing angles. You will get all of the technological and image quality benefits of an OLED panel, with Alienware's new AW3423DW gaming monitor packing 0.1ms response time and pure blacks -- so we have 3440 x 1440 native res + 175Hz refresh rate + QR-OLED panel + 0.1 response time -- alrighty then. Lukos tease 14-inch portable 4K gaming monitor: 3840 x 1100 @ 60Hz Anthony Garreffa | Tue, Feb 1 2022 9:45 PM CST Lukos has come out of nowhere announcing a very... well, let's just say interesting portable gaming monitor. The new Lukos Ultrawide 4K monitor is a new 14-inch IPS-based monitor with a 32:9 aspect ratio and a very weird 3840 x 1100 resolution display. The company does claim that the 3840 x 1100 panel has 100% sRGB and a 2ms response time, while gamers won't be too happy with the suck-ass 60Hz refresh rate. Lukos' new Ultrawide 4K monitor can support 2 and 4 multi-view features, where you can plug 4 different inputs into the monitor. Lukos' new monitor can accept either four different 1920 x 550 streams or dual 1920 x 110 streams at the same time. If you wanted to use it, well then you could use it as a streamer... or as someone who loves to have data in front of them, you could have CPU and GPU temps displayed right in front of you -- so that 60Hz refresh rate doesn't matter too much.
