Page Text: Contact Culture VPIS produces cultural activities that enrich the lives of citizens and relay heritage from one generation to the next. Arbor Day Celebration – Every April VPIS produces and sponsors an annual Arbor Day Celebration. Falls Church is awarded a “Tree City USA” designation by the Arbor Day Foundation and the City receives our new “Tree City USA” award at the celebration. We have more of those awards for more than 40 years, than any jurisdiction in Virginia. Independence Day Readings – July 4 Unique to Falls Church is the reading of the foundation documents of the United States.  Members of the audience are encouraged to participate. Summer Concerts in Cherry Hill Park – Every Thursday from late June through early August VPIS co-sponsors the concert with the City. The city provides the venue and VPIS hires the bands and produces the event. These free concerts are fun for all ages. Attic Treasures Sale – Every Spring Citizens donate treasures for the annual fundraising sale at the Community Center on Friday the day before the sale. We have limited storage before the sale, so call VPIS if you have items for us.  Sale items are displayed in settings depicting a village setting.   Live music and free popcorn are also popular attractions. Memorial Day Parade and Booth – Every Memorial Day Our parade entry always reflects one of our programs, such as tree planting or historical preservation. Our booth provides local information. Farmers Market Booth – Every Saturday May through November The Society sponsors a beverage and information booth each Saturday at the City’s Farmers Market. All proceeds are used to plant trees. Sponsorship of Watch Night Program at Falls Church Presbyterian Church VPIS produces and funds a dance for Watch Night every year as part of the City of Falls Church Watch Night Celebration. Spring and Fall Programs – June/November The general membership meeting highlights a speaker, a forum for voting on important issues, and a slide show on unique local features. Heritage Presentations – Times Announced Special presentations on our heritage are made periodically.  These events are announced through The Society publication, The Village Way. Watch this documentary about E.B. Henderson. Upcoming Events 2022 RainSmart Program The Falls Church Village Preservation and Improvement Society (VPIS) announces that the 2022 RainSmart grants to City of Falls Church residents are available for projects to reduce stormwater runoff. Grants are available for projects to install rain gardens or conservation landscapes and for purchase of rain barrels to store rain water. Copyright © 2022 VPIS . All rights reserved.
