LOOM CONFIGURATION Loom Size and Modules Each designer can choose the loom size and loom configurations based on their specific requirements of fabric widths and fabric densities. The loom comes in three sizes, which we call 2W, 3W and 4W looms. On a 2W loom, you can weave fabrics of upto 28”; on a 3W loom, you can weave fabrics upto 43” in width; and the fabric widths can be upto 56” on a 4W loom. Once you decide on the loom size (based on the fabric widths you want to weave), the next step is to choose the number of modules that you want to include. Consider the TC2 loom as a bookshelf and the modules as books that can be arranged and rearranged inside the loom. Now, each of the module enables a fabric width of 14.5” and a fabric density of 15 epi (ends over inch). The more number of modules you have, more are the possibilities to play with fabric densities and fabric widths! For example, if you go for a 4W loom with 12 modules, some of the possibilities that you have are: The loom can accommodate a maximum of 4 modules placed BESIDE each other and that’s why it’s called a 4-Wide or 4W loom. You can either place the modules BEHIND each other, which means one column of 12 modules OR you can place these modules BESIDE each other, which means three rows of 4 modules each. We call these configurations 1×12 and 4×3. If you have a configuration of 1×12, you can have a fabric width of 14.5” and a fabric density of 180 (15 epi x 12). Remember 1 module = 14.5” weaving width and 15 epi. And, if you have a configuration of 4×3, you can have a fabric width of 56” and a fabric density of 45 (15 epi x 3). It may all sound a bit complicated, and so, to make the concept of configurations simpler, here’s are all the possible configurations and the corresponding weaving possibilities… WEAVING WIDTH
