Page Text: Subscribe About To sum up one’s self in a single About Me page must be one of the greatest challenges of running a Web site. There are many things to say with little room to spare before the reader loses attention. I’m probably wasting precious time with this introduction right now. At the moment, it’s a warm October day. 12:07 p.m. I’ll grab lunch in an hour. Over the past few weeks, I’ve done a lot of soul searching. I’ve been trying to figure out who it is that I am. I had hoped that by updating my About Me page, I’d gain a smidgen more insight into myself. Writing often leads us to places that we never thought we’d go. Let’s see where this takes us– 12:10. My About Me pages have always been a reflection of who I am. They’ve shown the things that I love. They’ve shared a small piece of me with the online world. Over the past few years, I’ve felt like I’ve been a bit lost in my journey. I’ve been going through the motions of life. So, who am I? I’m a Web developer by trade. I enjoy reading at times. I’m an avid movie and television viewer. I have a love/hate relationship with gardening (love gardening but hate it when Mother Nature provides too little or too much rain). My current obsession is with re-attempting to better organize and schedule my day-to-day activities so that I can wake up every day with a purpose. 12:16. There are things that I thought I’d have done by now. I thought I would have written and published my first novel. I may try another NaNoWriMo to get the creative juices flowing again. I thought I’d be married with kids at this stage in my life. Being perfectly honest, I haven’t found someone that I’ve clicked with in a long while. 12:21. I need to fix my dietary habits. I’ve always had an on-again-off-again relationship with healthier eating. I know that habit is the key to that. However, I far too often fall off the wagon when there’s a change in my life. I need to recognize when I’m heading the wrong direction and course correct. Perhaps the real challenge is simply creating and sustaining more good habits and continually fighting against the bad habits. 12:27. What I do know about myself is that I want to be in a different place physically and emotionally within a year. I’m generally content with most things. However, I don’t always feel like I’m challenging myself as well as I should. I’m going to start pushing myself to be a better version of me. Maybe in another year I’ll update this page with a better sense of myself. 12:31.

Page Text: April 5, 2022 Version Something Dot Oh I finally pulled the trigger and updated this site to the latest version of the Blush framework . I also brought along a new design, something I’ve been furiously throwing together over the last week or so. I am really digging my drawing and painting pages with the design upgrade. The update was not without issues. For some reason, I thought my server was running PHP 7.4 (the minimum requirement for running Blush), but it was on 7.3. No biggie. The plan was to migrate to 8.1 at some point this week anyway. I just had to do it a bit earlier. FTP crapped out on me at some point as I was getting everything up—yes, I really need to find a better deployment method. So, I had to figure out what didn’t get uploaded. There was a stressful half hour or so there. After those couple of hiccups, everything was running smoothly. I had a ton of fun designing the footer. Note that the footer credit line is randomly generated, so there might be a surprise or two. Mostly, I just wanted to enjoy my own blog, so I added some little details that harken to my early foray into the web, such as a custom scrollbar design (probably only viewable on desktop). I also wanted to add other elements that were representative of my journey as an artist. That’s where the page header brushstroke comes in, which I borrowed from WordPress.org’s recent redesign. More than anything, I built something that was for me. I hope to have a lot of fun going forward with the site. Some of the posts before 2018 or so might have some broken images for a bit. I am reorganizing 19 years of media and consolidating it all into a single location. After running several systems over the years, my media has ended up all over the place. So, I am working on it. Wait, wasn’t Blush supposed to go official on Sunday? I am glad you asked, dear reader. Yes, version 1.0 was supposed to go live on April 3. However, things rarely go according to plan. Between yardwork in the real world and just trying to squash bugs online, well, there are only so many hours in the day. Plus, I wanted to spend some time running Blush live before giving the greenlight to the rest of the world. It is coming. With the delay, we have gotten some testing done from PHP 7.4–8.1, so everything is ready for those who want to run their sites on the latest and greatest version. Some new features were tacked on and plenty of bugs exterminated. I am eager to release Blush, but for today, I am going to enjoy the fresh paint job here on the ol’ blog.

Page Text: March 21, 2022 First Beta Release of Blush When I released Blush 1.0-alpha two weeks ago, I don’t think I entirely grasped what I was getting myself into. For the first time, I was announcing the release of my very own flat-file CMS to the world. Sure, I had been running some mangled version of it here on my site since 2018 , but this was a different venture. This time, it was for others. Today, that reality is hitting even harder. An alpha release signals that the software is more-or-less (less, in my case) ready for developers to give it a whirl. But, a beta, that’s when things get real. The public APIs are stable enough for testing with a wider crowd. And, with any luck, nothing breaks entirely. So, here we are, somewhere on the rickety edge, with something that probably ought not exist. But, we are here anyway. Since the alpha release, I have pretty much rewritten everything. I won’t list all the changes here. Feel free to browse the commit log if you’re into that sort of torture. For now, it is time to continue pushing forward, fixing any pesky bugs, and getting this thing ready for its 1.0 debut. Speaking of version 1.0, I am tentatively scheduling it for release on April 3. That’s two weeks from now. In the meantime, feel free to give it a run. Blush Framework — The CMS framework (runs under the hood). Sorry, the documentation is almost non-existent at this point. Page Text: March 7, 2022 Blush: Version 1.0 Alpha or Something Like It Officially, this is the first blog post I have ever written in Blush. Well, technically, I have been writing in it for over three years now. But, I only recently came up with a real name for the project. Blush is a PHP-based, flat-file CMS that I have been developing since late 2018 . OK, well, maybe not actively developing that entire time. It’s more like I built the bulk of it over a weekend and just fixed stuff along the way. It has gone through a few iterations in that time. But, as any programmer can tell you, naming the thing you have built is the toughest part. The 2018-era name was probably not PC. I never liked it anyway. Then, I had the perfect name somewhere between then and now, but another software developer beat me to it in the same CMS/framework space. After a brainstorming session that managed to spread itself across several weeks recently, I landed on Blush. I’ll dive into the “why” behind that name down the road. I figured it was finally time to share it with the world. I mean, really share it with the world (technically, the source code has been public since I started using it). I had the name. It was finally time. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been holed up in the lab, rewriting most of the original code from scratch. Much of the work consisted of implementing ideas I haven’t gotten around to in the last few years. Some of it was new stuff that I have learned as a programmer or just new things I picked up in the last few days. Today, I am proud to announce version 1.0.0-alpha. No, not even a beta yet. But, I’m shipping something. For those who want to give it a whirl, install the Blush repo via Composer. If you just want to check out the underlying code for the framework/CMS, see the Blush Framework . I am certain that I will be writing more about Blush in the coming weeks and months, perhaps even launching a separate website. I had planned to write more about the alpha launch, but a three-hour session of dealing with broken caching pushed my plans back. I’m barely getting this thing launched within the weekend before the real world comes knocking on the door in the morning.

Page Text: February 21, 2022 Daisy I continue to enjoy soft pastels and their ease of laying down color. It is sort of like being a kid again with the messiness of the medium but an adult-like version that allows the creation of something akin to decent art. I followed through with another tutorial, this time creating a daisy. I am happy with the end result. Soft pastel work also looks much better in person than viewing it digitally here on the web, and I cannot wait to hang this one in my office/art room. Oh, yeah, that’s a project I started over the weekend. I now have two walls decorated with my drawing work from the last couple of months. One for portraits and another for landscapes. I still have a bit of work left on tidying up the room. Maybe I will be able to wrap that up this week and share. As for this latest drawing, I feel like I really started to get the feel for pastel paper. It felt so different from other paper the last time I tried soft pastels that I wasn’t sure I would use it again. However, I am glad I stuck with it. Mostly, I just needed to use more pressure at times to really dig the colors into it and go lighter where I wanted the texture to bleed through. Anyway, here is the daisy drawing: Pink Daisy
